Terry's 1955 Mercury
|
Terry got in touch with me by way of Hotrodder.com forum. I have never seen this car before, but I am sure glad Terry sent me the pics. It is absolutely amazing that these pictures are of the same car. It is so nice to see what a little vision and work can do with a car that most people would turn their nose up at.
Terry says he got the car with 48,000 original miles, which for a 1955 is extremely low mileage. He says he is the 3rd owner. Terry didn't like the green (I can understand that), and decided on a color scheme that matched his favorite NFL team... the Oakland Raiders. I guess there going to be some rivalry there, because I am a 49er fan :-).
Body and paint work was done by Hot Rod Alley in Lompoc CA. The owner of that shop is Bill Anderson. Bill was the head body man and painter for Sam Foose for 17 years. Sam Foose is the father of the now very famous Chip Foose. So you know this is a top quality job.
The upholstery was done by Lam's Upholstery in Lompoc, CA. The motor is the stock 48,000 mile motor the car came with. Also untouched are the rims with the original Dog Dish hub caps and chrome beauty rings. Terry has plans to replace the intake manifold with a later model Y block intake and fit an Autolite 4100 carb with Pertonix electronic ignition.
The car has a three-on-the-tree with an overdrive. The electrical has been upgraded from the generator style unit to a 12V system. The car is Terry's everyday drive and he loves it.
Currently Terry is looking to add a new console to finish up the interior, add a radio, a couple cup holders and a garbage tray. Hopefully I will get some updated pictures of the new additions. I think we can all appreciate how these projects never really get finished. We just get to a point where there is less and less to add.
Thanks for sending in the pics Terry! This is a real beauty of a Mercury, even if it is Raider's Silver and Black ;-)
