Dave's (AKA yellomalibu) Yellow Malibu

The name says it all. It is a yellow Malibu, and from the pics you can tell it started out in rough shape. Not nearly as bad as QuickSilver, but it needed work. Dave's primary use for this car? Straight line drag racing. But it also has all it's interior pieces. You'll find Dave on Hot Rod Magazine's message board. That is where we met.

Dave says the car will run into the 10's. Not bad for a big-old car like that. But a small block Chevy with 14:1 compression doesn't hurt either. And from the wheel stand he shows us the car can hook-up too. Pedal down Dave! ;-)

Dave's description of the car: I bought my 68 Chevelle in California about a month before I got out of the Marines. With only a little knowledge of cars/ mechanics, I rebuilt the front end, replace all the belts and hoses, bought new tires, and had the leaks in the radiator fixed before driving this still new to me car across the country. Perhaps a year later, I met the manager of the local mom and pop auto parts store, who told me how to wire the new HEI. He is a drag racer, and soon I was too. For years, I spent nearly every night helping him in his garage building carburetors, race engines, wiring other people's race cars, minor fabrication, etc. My Chevelle has been a work in progress for 11 years or so, and I imagine it always will be. It went from running 15.7's in its original form, to running 13.70's with a new 355. A couple years later, I built an 11:1 406 for it and it ran 11.70's, with AFR 195 heads and a solid roller cam; so the roll bar and traction bars were then needed. A few years later, I traded the aging 406 for a new one (plus some extra cash, of course), this one had domed pistons, 6" eagle rods, and ported Bowtie heads... I was hoping for mid 10's, but so far it's only run a best of 10.97 @ 119.7. I need to do some more suspension work to give it more traction... and I think I need to have the 8" Coan torque converter adjusted. It has a TH400 with a trans-brake, 12 bolt with Strange 4.30's, spool, Moser 33 spline axles, and a huge driveshaft (because the last one I had made kept coming out of balance)

With the exception of the 4" 'glass hood, the car is mostly stock appearing with buckets, center console with shifter, back seat, headliner all replaced. The 8pt roll bar takes away a bit of the stock appearance, but it's a necessity. Some body mods: I had the antenna hole welded shut, eliminated the "307" emblem from the side of the fender and just use 68 Camaro side marker lights, and bought the "cowl induction" emblems for the hood.
